An update is available for my nu·m8 how do I receive it
It is very important that you allow nu.m8 to be updated especially when you first receive it as there are significant country specific enhancements that we make available by software update.
When an update is available, for safety reasons, it will only happen with a fully charged battery and when the watch is not in bracelet compromised mode.
1. With your watch turned on and the bracelet closed, on to the portal make sure the watch is in Standby mode and send an Off command to the watch.
2. Once the watch turns Off on its own, Open the Bracelet, place the watch back onthe charger, until the green light comes on.
3. In an area with good cell phone coverage, close the bracelet and as the watch starts you should see a few bars on the screen for a few minutes and then the watch will restart. The update takes less then 5 minutes and improves location and SMS features.
Registering Multiple nu·m8 under the same ID
For your first nu·m8, on the Portal log in page choose “Register New Device” and proceed through the registration steps. After you identify the first device, you will be prompted to add more devices if you want to register them all at once, you can simply add your device information at that point.
If you want to complete the registration for the first device and later want to add a second device under the same ID, proceed as follows: once logged on, in the portal menu bar, choose “My details” and Choose “Register” to add a new device.
Location info from the
watch being inconsistent:
Note if location information significantly incorrect make sure that you have applied at least one update since receiving your device to ensure country specific updates
If you are getting varying locations: There are two ways that nu.m8 gives you location: through GPS and through a Lok8u specific Cell tower triangulation. The watch will first always return the triangulation information as it’s faster and continues on to try to get GPS. If you are using it from the portal you will see a circle giving you the approximate location first.
If you are not getting the precise GPS info afterwards, you can train the watch on the GPS satellite location in your area: from the portal put the watch in 2 minute Live Track Mode and let it run, in 10 minutes you will get the exact location as the watch learns of the satellite positioning, much like a factory new car GPS device has to do the first time. Take it out of live track, from that point you should get the GPS location outdoors where ever you are.
What is the battery life of nu·m8
Like any battery operated device the more you use it the less battery life you will see. nu.m8 is quoted at 48 hours standby in good GSM coverage (cell phone network coverage). Powering up the GPS takes the most power although poor GSM or handshaking multiple base stations (during a car journey) will consume extra battery. We would expect 5-10 wru’s outdoors will give 14-18 hours battery life, 5-10 wrus indoors where we can see some GPS but not enough to lock will reduce battery life to 12 hours

The Green light comes on when I am charging nu.m8
This means that nu·m8 is fully charged and ready for use
The Red &
Green lights both come on when I place nu.m8 on the charger base
Your nu·m8 is not sitting correctly on the charger base. Please ensure that the unclasped end of the device is in the groove on the charger base. The green light should then go out leaving the red light on indicating the unit is charging. If the green light stays on and the red light goes out this indicates that nu·m8 is fully charged.
Nu.m8 doesn’t start up when I have switched it on
WARNING
nu·m8 will only work when the time is displayed. The time confirms that nu·m8 is connected to the mobile phone network and is operational.
* You may live in an area that has poor mobile phone coverage. If you switch nu·m8 on and take it outside this will help acquire the mobile phone signal. When the clock displays you will know that the signal has been acquired. If you have taken nu•m8 off your child’s wrist and taken it outside and it then acquires the mobile phone signal you may see a ‘Bracelet Compromise’ message appear on the Portal. In the event you have done this you must turn nu•m8 off using the Portal ‘Switch Off’ command or by texting ‘Off’ from the approved mobile phone. You can then re-start nu•m8 as normal.
* Check the status of the screen. If the screen shows ‘loading’ but the black bar is not moving around the screen (which can take up to 5 minutes) then take your child outside with nu•m8 and it should be able to acquire a good signal. This will be confirmed by the time appearing on the screen.
If the time still does not appear remove nu•m8 from your child, re-insert the strap in to the housing and gently push and hold the re-set button on the back plate next to the charging pins for approx 5 seconds, using the tool that is in the charger base unit.
nu•m8 should now re-set and start its initialization process. Please note that you may need to take nu•m8 outside to enable it to log on to the mobile phone network.
Once nu•m8 is logged on (clock showing on the display) you must go to the Portal and click ‘Switch Off’. When this command has been completed and the Portal has updated with the status showing ‘Off’ you can then release the strap from the housing using the tool supplied and nu•m8 is ready to be placed on your child.
* Check that nu•m8 is fully charged by placing it on the charger base. If the red light comes on nu•m8 is not charged. Leave on the charger until the green light comes on.
The red light comes on when I place nu.m8
on the charger base
This shows nu·m8 is correctly positioned on the charger base and is re-charging the battery. It is safe to use nu·m8 when the red light goes out and the green light comes on
How do I alter the strap to fit my child’s wrist?
Remove the tool from the back of the charger base and use this to un-screw and remove the nut in the strap. Adjust the strap length to comfortably fit your child’s wrist, then with
the device off the wrist, re-insert the screw and tighten.
Place nu·m8 on the charger base with the strap un-locked so the open end of the housing fits in to the groove. The red light should come on to show the charging cycle has started. If both lights
are showing then nu·m8 is not correctly seated on the charger base. Adjust the position until only the red light is showing.
I have removed nu.m8 from my child without sending the “off” command
If you have inadvertently removed nu·m8 from your child without sending the ‘Switch Off’ command via the Portal or ‘Off’ via text you must turn nu·m8 off correctly as soon as possible. If you do not nu·m8 will go in to bracelet compromised mode and send messages via email and text until the unit is turned off.
To turn nu·m8 off from the portal click the ‘Switch Off’ button and confirm when prompted.
To turn nu·m8 off using your mobile phone text ‘Off’ to nu·m8. (Note the mobile phone must be set up to send and receive information to nu·m8 – see ‘Alerts and Contact setting’)
I have forgotten
the phone number of my nu.m8
Log on to the portal and select the nu·m8 you wish to find the number of and hover your mouse over that nu·m8 icon to reveal the number.
How do I turn nu.m8 off?
There are 2 ways of turning nu·m8 off.
From the portal click the ‘Switch Off’ button and when the message asks you to confirm click yes. The command will be sent to nu·m8 and when the screen clears the portal should show ‘Off’ in the right hand status panel.
Using a Mobile Phone. Text ‘Off’ to your nu·m8 phone number. Note: the mobile phone you are using must be set as the approved phone (see ’Alert & Contact setting’ in the ‘Help’ section). nu·m8 will not respond to an un-approved mobile phone.
How do I turn un.m8 on?
Remove nu·m8 from the charger base, place it around your child’s wrist and push the metal tip end in to the watch housing. You will feel a click as the strap switches nu·m8 on. nu·m8 will then go in to it’s pre-check start up process covering new software upgrades and any alterations made to the portal settings.
You will see a message on the screen ‘Loading’ (which is the pre-check and loading message) with a black bar moving around the 4 sides of the screen. When this has completed the time will display and nu·m8 is connected to the network.
How do I set or change a safe or home zone?
See ‘Safe Zones’ and ‘Home Zones’ in the ‘Help’ section
Nu.m8 is taking a
long time to respond to my instructions
The most common reason for a delay to occur is because nu·m8 is being used in a bad mobile phone signal area. When the signal improves nu·m8 will respond.
Nu.m8 clock shows the wrong time
Note Make sure that you have applied at least one update since receiving your device to ensure country specific updates
The nu·m8 clock can only be altered using the mobile phone listed in the contact details
To change the time text ‘time+(hour)’ or ‘time-(hour)’ to nu·m8. e.g. Actual time is 9.00 AM nu·m8 shows 8.00 then text ‘time+1′ to nu·m8
What do I need to use the Lok8u locating service?
A registered address that is supported by utility bills, credit/debit card and access to either the internet, or a mobile phone with SMS (text) facility.
How do I know my child won’t turn the service off?
The service is automatically turned on as soon as the wrist strap on the device is fastened, and the LCD display shows the time. This confirms that it is activated. The only way the service can be
disabled is if you login to your area of the Lok8u website and send a “Switch Off” command or text ‘Off’ from your mobile phone.
Which phones are compatible with the service?
All mobile phones can receive text messages which is the standard way for nu.m8 to communicate your child’s position or give a warning. If you have a phone with internet connectivity (GPRS, 3G or Wifi) and the right tariff, you can also see the child’s location on a map linked to the text message. Some mobiles can receive email alerts as well as text messages. If in doubt please contact your network provider.
How do I use the portal to locate my child?
